| 2. An unquestioning nature (1) Some authors don't make good agency clients. They get impatient while their agency is looking for relevant publishers, they get frustrated when writing and correcting their work, they get itchy about their royalty payments. They react gruffly when the agency doesn't place them and their works at the center of all its activities. They start getting suspicious, watching the agency closely and continually checking up on it. ? As a result, the agency will be tempted to reduce its involvement with the author and might even suggest to the author that they end their cooperation. This is really unfortunate - because often the reasons for an author's unprofessional behavior are simply false assessments of the market or a lack of knowledge about the publishing industry. |
